Novelis is the exclusive supplier of aluminium sheet for the recently introduced Jaguar XE. In the mid-size segment the new Jaguar XE sets new standards in weight savings and energy efficiency. Based on the new modular platform of the car maker, the XE is the only model in its segment to have a body with over 75% aluminium content. The Jaguar models XJ, XK and F-Type are already based on distinctive aluminium technology, which is now also being used in the mid-size premium segment. The weight reduction achieved makes the XE the most economical Jaguar yet, with fuel consumption of less than four litres per 100 km and CO2 emissions under 100 g/km.

In close cooperation with Jaguar, Novelis developed innovative and sophisticated aluminium sheet solutions. Together they produced optimal conditions for a Jaguar saloon which is lighter, stronger and more aerodynamic than all previous models of the British car maker. The XE's advanced aluminium design features Novelis’ Advanz 6000 product series alloys, developed specifically for automotive skin sheet and structural applications. The result is an extremely robust and lightweight construction, which offers high driving dynamics and safety but is still easy on fuel consumption and good for exhaust emissions (under 100g/km).

“Novelis is proud to supply Jaguar Land Rover with aluminium sheet and to enable such innovative lightweight constructions as the XE this way,” said Pierre Labat, Vice President and General Manager Automotive at Novelis Europe. “The XE is further proof of the branch leadership of Jaguar Land Rover and Novelis in the development and production of lightweight vehicles for mass production. The engineering of the body marks another important milestone in body construction, and sets new standards on the market.“

With the XE, Novelis and Jaguar Land Rover have together developed the first car in which an aluminium alloy comprised primarily of recycled material is used. Both companies will be using alloys with high recycled content even more in all future Jaguar Land Rover product lines. Novelis and Jaguar Land Rover are using the resulting savings in CO2 emissions to further expand their leading position in the area of sustainability. Since 2013 Novelis’ British recycling plant in Latchford has provided Jaguar Land Rover with a complete closed loop recycling solution. There the production scrap of the car maker is processed into new material for car sheet metal.
