Aluminium semis producers upbeat for 2016

Despite a slight decline in production in 2015, the German aluminium semis industry is looking forward to 2016 with optimism. The aluminium rolling mills in Germany account for almost half of all European rolled aluminium products and the highest share of German aluminium semis production.


ALUMINIUM 2016 grows with the lightweight construction megatrend

Excitement is building for the 11th edition of the ALUMINIUM trade fair and conference, to be held in Düsseldorf from 29.11 to 1.12.2016. Eight months before the fair commences more than 700 exhibitors have registered for the world's largest branch event.


Utility vehicle manufacturer chooses Endur aluminium sheet from Alcoa

Utility vehicle manufacturer Fruehauf has designed a new series of tip-trailers, which, for improved strength, durability and weight-saving reasons, are manufactured using Alcoa's Endur-Al aluminium sheet.


Tube production stable at high level in 2015

The European tube manufacturers association (etma) presented the production figures for last year. Total production by etma members in 2015 was 10.5 billion tubes, exactly the same as the previous year’s mark, and thus remained stable at a high level. Aluminium tubes account for the largest share with about 40 per cent of the market.


Pioneering Aluminum facade for the Wintergartenareal Leipzig

The modern headquarter’s façade consists of glass elements combined with Novelis pre-painted Aluminum ff2. For the façade the planning team chose Novelis coil-coated aluminium ff2® composed of an AIMg3 (5754) alloy it’s strength and flatness.


Record sales for beverage cans in 2015

2.08 billion beverage cans were sold in Germany in 2015, and roughly 80 percent of them were made of aluminium. The record sales are comprised of two strong half-years. Around 40 percent of the beverage cans sold last year contained beer.


Hydro to construct pilot plant in Karmøy

Hydro has decided to build a large-scale technology pilot plant in Karmøy, Norway. The most climate-friendly and energy-efficient production system in the world for primary aluminium is to be tested in the plant. Total costs are estimated at 4.3 billion NOK (450 million euros).


AMAG places order for cold rolling mill

AMAG rolling in Ranshofen has placed an order with the SMS group in Düsseldorf for the delivery of a cold rolling mill, a heat-treatment line with attached passivation plant, a high-bay warehouse and a packaging line. The plants are to be put into operation in 2017.


ALUMINIUM 2016 Conference: Call for papers starts

For the fourth time GDA together with Reed Exhibitions are planning and organizing the conference accompanying ALUMINIUM 2016. Under the title “Aluminium - Material for the Future” presentations are planned on the subjects of plant and equipment, automotive, surface, recycling technologies and aluminium markets.


Novelis and Jaguar Land Rover develop new aluminium alloy

Novelis has brought a newly developed alloy onto the market for the automotive industry, with up to 75 percent recycled content. The alloy was developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover and represents a central element of the REALCAR (REcycled ALuminium CAR) project.


Mobile aluminium boxes for office use

With the new K 4242 XC Mobil Box Office, the aluminium fabricator Zarges has developed a robust, secure and practical solution. Because, thanks to the integrated castors and a strong telescopic handle, pulling the aluminium box is convenient and easy.


The tube was invented 175 years ago

Exactly 175 years ago, namely in 1841, the American John Goffe Rand invented the tube. Reasons enough for the tube industry to celebrate this anniversary in a fitting manner. etma ( European tube manufacturers association) is extending an invitation to attend the World Tube Congress in Berlin on 2 June 2016.


Hammerer Aluminium Industries acquires precision-profile specialist LEAN Extrusion

The Austrian aluminium specialist Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI) is taking over 100 percent of the German LEAN Extrusions GmbH. Already last year this plant produced high-gloss aluminium parts for HAI as 50 percent joint venture.

High-strength aluminium alloys offer the greatest potential for weight reduction in body construction. With the newly developed technology of hot forming of aluminium sheet, now it is possible to produce complex geometries.

International Aluminium Die-casting Award 2016

GDA has awarded the winners of the International Aluminium Die Casting Competition 2016 as part of the EUROGUSS 2016 in Nuremberg. Prizes were awarded to three castings from renowned manufacturers with a further three castings receiving special commendations.
