Jürgen Hirsch takes over DGM chairmanship

At the DGM board meeting at the end of April in Frankfurt Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Hirsch from the Hydro aluminium company was unanimously elected as president for the years 2015 and 2016. With that Prof. Hirsch will succeed Prof. Dr. Hans-Jürgen Christ.


International Al Pressure Die Casting Competition 2016

Harald Kroener is new president of WVM

The chairman of Wieland-Werke in Ulm, Harald Kroener, is the new president of the WirtschaftsVereinigung Metalle (WVM). Kroener follows Oliver Bell, who had stepped down from his office at the end of March. The reason behind was a professional change to a company outside of the non-ferrous-metal industry.


Good result for the Swiss aluminium industry in 2014, but major slump in first quarter 2015

The Swiss aluminium industry is looking back on a satisfactory year in 2014. After the Swiss National Bank’s decision in January 2015 to discontinue the minimum euro exchange rate, the order situation, which had been positive until then, took a dive.


The new Audi Q7 – Considerably lighter thanks to aluminium

Compared to its predecessor, depending on the type of engine the new Audi Q7 has shed up to 325 kilograms. The body alone, with its innovative multi-material construction integrating large components made of aluminium, saves 71 kilograms.


Aluminium industry starts new year with growth in production

During the first quarter of 2015 there were increases in the production of raw aluminium, semi-finished aluminium products and aluminium castings. Aluminium conversion began 2015 with a slight minus. Volumes are expected to develop in an upward direction.


Hydro lays the cornerstone for new recycling plant

At its Rheinwerk plant in Neuss, Hydro has laid the cornerstone of a new recycling plant for used beverage cans. The new plant is going to double the existing annual recycling capacity to around 100,000 tonnes and will process a wide variety of can scrap.

New aluminium rechargeable battery charges in only minutes

Researchers at Stanford University have developed an aluminium-ion rechargeable battery that charges in minutes. It also offers a very long durability. Another advantage is that aluminium batteries are relatively cheap, and compared to alkaline batteries, environmentally friendly.
