Effective October 2016 the Austrian aluminium specialist Hammerer Aluminium Industries (HAI) will assume control of the existing production line and the production of aluminium extrusion profiles from the solar assembly manufacturer Schletter, based in the Bavarian town of Kirchdorf bei Haag. "Thanks to Schletter's implementation of its current corporate strategy, the opportunity arose for us to take control of the entire area of profile production, with all its facilities," explains CEO Rob van Gils.

With this acquisition the HAI Group will raise its extrusion press capacity to 75,000 tonnes per year and strengthen its position in the construction and industry market segment. With the commissioning of the new aluminium extrusion press, at the end of the trial operations phase at the end of 2017 the HAI Group will have eight extrusion press lines at its disposal on which high quality aluminium profiles are produced. "I am pleased that we can stay on track with our strategic alignment with the new press and become an even more reliable partner as far as risk management goes for all our customers in the area of construction and industry," said van Gils. The Schletter 33MN extrusion press has an annual capacity of 15,000 tonnes.

On top of that, HAI continues to expand its plant in Soest: It is anticipated that the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 200 metre production building will take place in October this year. "In recent years we have been systematically proceeding along a path of healthy and decisive growth. With the new investment of 12 million euros in the Soest site we will be creating 50 to 60 new jobs. This also represents a broadening of our base at our North Rhine-Westphalia site." The plant in Soest produces lightweight parts for the automotive industry. "This segment still has potential for growth, but we are specifically also targeting the areas of construction and industry, and we can expand our existing product portfolio even more," explains van Gils. "In accordance with our group strategy, we will then have an even broader base and be ready for the future."

With nearly 1000 employees, in its three production divisions of Casting, Extrusion and Processing the HAI Group generated sales of roughly 380 million euros in 2015.

In the premium segment of lightweight aluminium design for the automotive industry, the HAI Group is moving toward taking the technological lead and, in accordance with its corporate strategy, it will soon be Europe's strongest medium-sized enterprise in this area.
