Aluminium production worldwide

The global demand for aluminium has increased markedly in recent years, not least as a result of the dynamic economic developments in Asia. The figures given here provide an overview of the production of aluminium worldwide.

Production of primary aluminium

Bauxite mining
Bauxite mining
In 2007, 38 million tonnes of primary aluminium were produced worldwide. Following a constant increase in production since 2001 there was also a 12% increase in production in 2007 compared with 2006.

During 2007, there was an increase in production of 3.4% in Europe. America produced 4.8% more of primary aluminium than the previous year. The production of primary aluminium in Asia reoprtet growth of 26.5% in 2007, which is the highest increase compared to recent years.

Production of secondary aluminium

Recycling
The production of secondary (recycled) aluminium reported an increase of 6,7% or 600.000 tonnes in 2007 compared with the previous year. This is due to the development in America (+ 12.3%). The quantity produced in the Europe (+ 3.6%) is moderate, Asia and Africa remained unchanged.

Of the 9.6 million tonnes of secondary aluminium produced worldwide in 2007, some 48% was attributable to America and 30% to Europe.
