Aluminium production worldwide

The global demand for aluminium has increased markedly in recent years, not least as a result of the dynamic economic developments in Asia. The figures given here provide an overview of the production of aluminium worldwide.

Production of primary aluminium

Bauxite mining
Bauxite mining
In 2010, 41 million tonnes of primary aluminium were produced worldwide. Following a constant increase in production since 2001 there was a 6.8% decrease in production in 2009. In 2010, the worldwide production of aluminum rose by 10.7%

In 2010, the production of primary aluminum in Europe increase of approximately 2.3% in comparison to 2009. On the American continent were in 2010the production about 4% less than last year. The Asian region recorded with just over 22% growth in 2010 increasing production rates.

Recycling
The production of secondary (recycled) aluminium reported a growth of 4,7% in 2010 compared with the previous year. This is due to the development in Asia(+20%) and Europe (+16%) and Europe (-18.5%).

Of the 8 million tonnes of secondary aluminium produced worldwide in 2010, some 43% was attributable to America 29% to Europe and 25% to Asia.
