A Slight Decline in Demand for Aluminium Packaging

15.04.13 Manufacturers of aluminium packaging recorded slight volume losses in the business year 2012. In 2012, aluminium packaging manufacturers produced a total of 320,025 tons of aluminium foils, tubes and aerosol cans, 4.6 percent less than the amount produced in the previous year (2011: 335,490 tons).

Hydro expands automotive capacity

08.04.13 Hydro has decided to nearly double the capacity of its continuous annealing line at its aluminium rolling mill in Grevenbroich. This is to satisfy growing demand from the automotive industry. After the expansion the annealing line AL2 will have the ability to produce up to 50,000 tonnes of aluminium strip for car body parts.

20.03.13 The member companies of etma, the European tube manufacturers association, managed to increase their production again in 2012, up 1 % on what was already a successful previous year. Despite the difficult economic and business environment in Europe, the ten-billion-tube barrier was broken once again, with 10.33 billion tubes being produced.

The success of the beverage can continues

20.03.13 The upward trend of the can in Germany persists: The European association of beverage can manufacturers, Beverage Can Makers Europe (BCME), recorded another rise in beverage cans sold in Germany, to around 1.4 billion in 2012. BCME reported a rise in sales of beverage cans in 2012 of almost 25 per cent compared to the previous year.

18.02.13 Sentiment among Germany’s aluminium producers and processors improved slightly at the start of 2013. Following a good start in the first half of 2012 there was a detectable decline in the growth dynamics at the end of the year. However, the sector is more optimistic for 2013 and is hoping for a stable economic trend.

Improving climate protection by recycling aluminium packaging

04.02.13 The high level of recycling of aluminium packaging in Germany has risen again, and reached a new peak in 2011. Of the 93,700 tonnes of aluminium packaging used on the market in this year, 82,200 tonnes were recycled. This corresponds to a rate of recycling of 87.8 per cent.

Demand for beverage cans continues to grow

03.01.13 Beverage cans are becoming increasingly popular amongst consumers. In the first nine months of 2012, 20 percent more beverage cans were sold in Germany than in the same time the previous year. A total of 1.05 billion cans were passed over German sales counters from January to September 2012; 73.4 percent were aluminium cans.
