Limited edition of Audi-designed football table available

Aluminium football table
05.07.10 -
The good old football tables that were once a familiar sight in pubs, clubs and kids’ bedrooms have been enjoying a comeback for some time. In a design study two years ago, the Munich-based Audi design team turned its attention to this item of leisure equipment and gave it a futuristic look, with aluminium playing an important role. An additional 20 tables produced by a specialist football-table manufacturer have now gone on sale. Each table in the exclusive limited-edition series is priced at 12,900 euros.

The design is new for a football table and it takes some time for purists to get used to it: the futuristic appearance is reminiscent of a modern football stadium and has little in common with the rugged and sturdy tables found in bars or youth clubs. In addition to the emotional design, the Audi-designed tables also incorporate, of course, ‘Vorsprung durch Technik’. The material, workmanship and technical implementation are of the highest standard. During hand-crafting, the wooden core is finished using aluminium and high-strength plastic. Important here is that the playing characteristics are exactly the same as those of a professional football table. This combination of functionality and design is unique in table football.

The shell, which has a trapezoidal cross-section in the longitudinal direction, has an aluminium ledge running round the outside that adds a finishing touch and the table stands on smoothly curved aluminium legs. The players for the Audi-designed football table have also been specially designed. Matt and shiny surfaces and the finely brushed aluminium frame enhance the up-market appearance. The deep green colour of the grass has been retained, albeit under an acrylic glass playing surface. A shiny, silvery surface here would have been too much of a good thing.
