Emirates using docking equipment made of aluminium

For maintenance of the giant new Airbus A380-800 and Boeing B777 jets Emirates airlines makes use of docking equipment made of aluminium. The electrically adjustable and modular docking system supplied by Günzburger Steigtechnik, with a work area of more than 1480 m2, is made almost entirely of aluminium.Using this new docking system technicians in Dubai can service both the Airbus A380 as well as the Boeing B777 aircraft. A total of twelve modules per wing are used when working on the A380-800, and eight per wing are used when working on the B777.
The aircrafts are not the only things that impress in terms of dimensions; the wing docking system is quite something too: On each side the docking system is 39.3 metres long and weighs 40 tonnes, and it has a total work area of 1480 m2. The entire system can be electrically raised by 0.50 metres. Apart from the screws, the height adjustment system and the steering rollers, the entire docking system is made of aluminium. But it offers an important extra benefit too: since some of the guard railings on the docking system can be folded, the aircraft can be docked for servicing faster and more flexibly than ever before.
