The Swedish furniture maker IKEA has often used the light material aluminium for design-oriented furniture. Now they have “Reidar”. Reidar is a chair for outdoor use made entirely of aluminium, but it is also quite suitable for indoor use.

Metal objects play an important role in high tech design. But for some time now, aluminium has also been a trendy material to work with in furniture design. Designers are using aluminium more and more often for furniture or parts of interior furnishings: for example, for cupboard fronts, bed frames, tables, chairs and shelving systems.

The chair by designer Ola Wihlborg is made entirely of aluminium, so it can be left outside all year long. Rainwater can run off it through the openings in the seat. Reidar is also stackable and saves space when not in use. The dimensions of the seat area are 49×50 cm, and the chair is 78 cm tall. Reidar is available in five different colours.
