The programme for the conference that will be run in parallel with the ALUMINIUM 2010 trade fair – which takes place from 14-16 September in Essen – has now been finalised. In keeping with the motto of the conference, ‘Aluminium – Material for the Future’, the programme committee chaired by Wolfgang Heidrich, Technical Officer of GDA – Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie e.V., Düsseldorf, has accepted 30 papers, which are arranged in five sessions: Processes, Transport, Automotive, Surface and Aluminium Markets. The Processes session includes, for example, a paper by Dr Dan Dragulin of BELTE AG titled ‘Solid and Liquid State – Heat Treatment Improves Material Properties of Aluminium Casting Alloys for Automotive Applications’. In the Aluminium Markets session, Günther Kirchner, Managing Director of VAR Verband der Aluminiumrecycling-Industrie e.V., will speak on ‘Aluminium Recycling – Source of Raw Material Supply and Sustainability Indicator’. The Automotive session includes papers by Christoph Matz of the Linde Gas business unit of Linde AG on ‘Improved Economics in MIG Welding of Automotive Al-structures by Using O2 Doped Argon–Helium Welding Gas Mixtures’ and by Dr Rolf Leiber of LEIBER Group GmbH & Co. KG on the subject of ‘Leichtbau in Perfektion – Lightness and Precision’. Dr Oliver Brandl of Amcor Flexibles Singen GmbH will make a presentation in the Surface session that will deal with ‘Active Pharma Packaging: Laminates with Desiccant’.
“The participation of companies in the ALUMINIUM 2010 Conference is an indication of the importance that this event has in parallel to the ALUMINIUM trade fair,” says Christian Wellner, Executive Director of GDA. “The presentations in the various sessions underline yet again the significance of aluminium as a material and as the title of the conference says, it is the material of the future.”
A congress has been held in parallel to the ALUMINIUM trade fair in Essen for a good many years. However, this year’s event is the first time that GDA has planned and organised the conference together with Reed Exhibitions.
The ALUMINIUM 2010 Conference will be divided into two half-day sessions, each with six presentations. On 14 and 15 September the first session will begin at 9.30, the second will finish at 16.30. On 16 September the first session will begin at 9.30, the second will finish at 12.30. The topics covered will be arranged in such a way that conference attendees will have the opportunity for a half-day visit to the fair. Sessions can be booked individually.
