Aluminium is produced or processed in about 600 plants in Germany. The companies, which include concerns that operate worldwide as well small and medium-sized businesses, thus create work and income for a large number of people associated directly or indirectly with this branch of industry. In 2008, the aluminium industry in Germany employed 74,000 people directly.
